Towards Hope: Service and Stories Connected to Overcoming Abuse

Hosted by the Catholic Student Center at Washington University

Join the Catholic Student Center (CSC) in a day of service and stories at Lydia’s House, a local non-profit organization that works to end domestic violence by being a place of healing and a voice of hope for women and children who have suffered abuse. Participants support the work and mission of Lydia’s House by helping with behind the scenes cleaning and simple maintenance work, providing a safe, clean environment for the clients of Lydia’s House. The service work is punctuated with stories and statistics that help shed light on the issue of domestic violence in general, and its impacts on the St. Louis community in particular.

This excursion will be available for up to 10 students.

Physical Requirements: Activities could include prepping apartments for new families, cleaning, doing yard work, painting, sorting donations or more. That being said, participants should be able to perform these duties (with breaks). In the past, we have used latex gloves when cleaning. An allergy to latex is not a deal breaker, but something that we should be aware of beforehand.
